Useful information
What should you do and not do the day before a photo shoot?
On the eve of a photo shoot, you should do the following:
- get a good night’s sleep, have a manicure, and you can also make a soothing face mask.
- wash your hair in the evening, but please do not use hair oil. You can only use conditioner on the ends of your hair.
- hair removal can be done 2 days before the photo shoot to give your skin time to calm down.
What you should not do:
- Do not perform chemical skin treatments: procedures such as peels, waxing, or other aggressive skin treatments can cause irritation or inflammation of the skin.
- Do not drink too much alcohol or eat heavy meals: swelling may occur.
- Avoid intense physical activity: Physical activity can cause swelling, muscle pain, or even skin redness.
- Avoid sunbathing: Natural tanning or tanning beds can leave marks on the skin or lead to an uneven skin tone, which can be seen in the photo.
- Don’t get involved in stressful situations. Try not to worry before the photo shoot.
How do you prepare for a photo shoot?
First, think about what outfits you would like to be photographed in. Search the internet for examples of photos that illustrate your wishes and please show them to me before the shoot.
Clothing should be comfortable, clean, and ironed. For family and couple photo shoots, it is better to choose neutral colors without large prints and logos. Don’t forget your shoes; they should match your clothes and be clean.
I advise women to have their makeup done professionally to emphasize their natural beauty and conceal any imperfections. I also recommend having your hair done professionally or simply washing it and styling it yourself.
It is advisable to keep your manicure neutral so that it goes with any outfit.
Don’t forget to bring along various accessories: hats, jewelry, etc., to vary your look.
And most importantly: a positive attitude🌞
Brainstorming ideas for a photo shoot (reference)
A reference is a photo that conveys the idea of what you want to achieve in a shoot. For a photographer, this is an understanding of the direction of the work, the idea of a photo shoot, a combination of colors, or a search for inspiration.
You can take inspiration from the reference for poses, colors, ideas for clothing, makeup, hairstyles, etc.
Find photos on Instagram, Pinterest, and other websites. You can find examples.
Especially if you don’t have much experience with photo shoots and don’t know any nice poses, you can select some nice photos in advance and practice in front of the mirror at home. Your body will get used to these positions and you will feel more confident during the photo shoot.
How the photo shoot runs
First, we meet with you or exchange emails to determine what kind of photo shoot you need.
Then we decide what kind of clothes are best suited for this shoot, what accessories, what makeup, and what hairstyle are appropriate. By the way, I have a lot of clothes and accessories that I can lend you for the duration of the shoot.
Next, we choose a suitable location.
If you can’t go to a professional makeup artist and stylist, I can help you with simple makeup and hair styling.
On the day of the shoot, we will meet at the photo shoot location, and I will take photos of you.
Then begins the phase of selecting the best photos and color correction.
All photos are still “raw” after being taken with the camera. They need to be developed using special professional software to correct colors, shadows, light, and contrast. All of this takes more than an hour.
Then you choose the best photos for detailed retouching.
Detailed retouching includes: cleaning the skin of blemishes, removing bags under the eyes, body shaping, hair correction if necessary, skin tone correction, brightening the whites of the eyes, removing unnecessary objects from the photo, and much more. A photo can take between 5 minutes and 1.5 hours to edit.
I try to perform high-quality retouching while preserving the skin texture.
Choice of outfit and location
Clothing, makeup, and hairstyle should match the concept of the photo shoot, as should the location of the photo shoot.
For example, if you want to do a family photo shoot at the lake, it’s better not to wear an evening gown and high-heeled shoes.
It is best to discuss the clothing for each participant together before the photo shoot. To do this, simply send me photos of your clothing.
